The Systems Atlas

Explore Different Tech Stacks

Start with
What are these systems?
Ecommerce platform
An ecommerce platform runs an online shop. It presents products, accepts customer orders and payments, and communicates order progress. It does not physically store or ship goods.
WMS (Warehouse Management System)
A warehouse is a physical place where goods are received, stored, picked, packed and dispatched. A Warehouse Management System (WMS) is the software that records and directs that work. It can be operated by the brand or by a logistics partner.
What layers connect and support these systems?
Integration · APIs & middleware
APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) let systems exchange information and communicate effectively.

An integration is the process of connecting different software applications via their APIs to automate workflows and keep data synced between them. The core difference is that pre-built integrations are ready-made, “plug-and-play” tools designed for quick setup, whereas custom integrations are built from scratch by developers to handle unique, tailored business needs.
AI · Analysis, recommendations & assistance
It acts as an intelligent layer that enhances current tools. AI integrates into a company’s tech stack by connecting directly to existing databases and applications via APIs to analyze data, automate repetitive workflows, and deliver smart predictions.

WMS (Warehouse Management System)

Ecommerce ↔ Warehouse Management

This is a conceptual architecture; these can change based on each business requirement.

Architecture Explained

Summary

In this example, ecommerce holds the product and inventory records and sends them, together with customer orders, to the warehouse management system. The warehouse picks, packs and ships the goods, then sends inventory updates, adjustments and fulfilment information back to ecommerce, including shipment tracking.

Business impact

Ecommerce and warehouse software connect online sales with picking, packing and delivery. Automated order, stock and shipment updates reduce repeated data entry and help teams fulfil orders with fewer errors, clearer visibility and less manual follow-up.

How it works with your selected systems

  • Ecommerce → WMS → EcommerceThe integration sends products, inventory and orders to WMS; the warehouse picks, packs and ships, then returns tracking, fulfilment updates and stock adjustments to ecommerce.
